Com 20 jogos feitos, o jogador, além de um gol e duas assistências, mostra cada vez mais a sua importância no sistema de jogo do técnico Fernando Diniz atuando improvisado na lateral esquerda, desbancando Mascarenhas e Marlon, jogadores da posição.
Contudo, o atleta de 21 anos reforçou a vontade de defender a seleção brasileira nas olimpíadas do ano que vem em Tokyo, Japão. Como cada país pode levar 23 jogadores, sendo apenas três acima dos 23 anos, Caio vive a expectativa para uma possível convocação.
Vale ressaltar que ele já teve passagem pelas seleções de base no Brasil. Em 2016, era o capitão do time que ganhou o Quadrangular de Seleções, torneio preparatório para o Sulamericano.
A primeira convocação do time sub-23 será em junho visando o Torneio de Toulon. O técnico do sub-20, André Jardine, ex-São Paulo, irá selecionar os nomes. Após a Copa América, Sylvinho, auxiliar de Tite, irá assumir o time em definitivo.
Caio Henrique está emprestado ao Fluminense pelo Atlético de Madrid até o fim do ano. Será difícil comprar o passe em definitivo pelos altos valores envolvidos, principalmente, caso venha a ser convocado. O próprio treinador do time espanhol, Diego Simeone, rasgou-o de elogios, comparando com Saúl, jogador da mesma posição que atua no time de Madrid e na seleção espanhola.
Independente da convocação, o volante/lateral segue sendo uma das principais peças do Fluminense na temporada e agradando não só Fernando Diniz, mas também toda a torcida tricolor.
